Delivering caring and compassionate virtual therapy across Texas.
My name is Christine Pao and I am a licensed psychologist in Texas.
Those who know me best appreciate my calm demeanor and caring nature. In the therapy room (both virtually and in person), I aim to create a safe and supportive environment for those I work with. My therapeutic style is gentle, validating, and collaborative. As a second generation Asian American who grew up in an immigrant household, I have a deep respect and appreciation for diversity. Thus, I strive to be attentive to the ways in which race, ethnicity, and other cultural factors shape each person’s identity and views.
My approach to therapy is primarily client-centered. However, I tailor my style and techniques to best meet the needs of each person I work with. I draw from evidence-based therapies including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). The primary approach I use for couples therapy is integrative behavioral couples therapy (IBCT).
I obtained my B.A. in English and Psychology from Rice University. I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston and completed my predoctoral internship at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. I also completed a year-long residency in couples therapy and psychosocial recovery and rehabilitation. I currently work as a psychologist at the VA Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
On a personal note, I am a wife and a mom of one human and five cats. Originally from southern California, I now embrace the Texas heat and humidity and currently reside in San Antonio.
